Cream & Coffee
A film by Em Wood

About the project:
This short film is a romantic comedy with an edge to it. Though the overall theme is playful, it also features earnest subject matter that is a reality of any interpersonal relationship preparing to take the next step.
Twenty-something women Lottie and Cleo are in what may colloquially be referred to as a “situationship.” When something unexpected happens, Lottie is forced to have a frank discussion at Cleo’s behest. Through a painfully honest yet intimate exchange, they realize they could never appear unseemly to one another and come to the conclusion that they've essentially been dating for a while (sans the exclusive label). Thus, they agree to make it official, and the film concludes with the start of their burgeoning relationship.
Visual Style / Outlook:
This film will be shot on the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K Cinema Camera. A 35mm and 50mm lens will be used for establishing and conversational shots, while an 85mm lens will capture tight, sincere moments with a shallow depth of field.
The shoot will take place from mid-morning through the afternoon, utilizing natural key light from windows or a sliding glass door. The soft, dewy light symbolizes the initial mystery that shrouds a new relationship—how we first see a partner through an almost dreamlike lens. As the story unfolds and that veil inevitably lifts, this same natural light transforms into a symbol of clarity and optimism, reflecting the couple’s future together.
